ISDN is the technology that delivers the bulk of corporate telephony services in Australia. However, Telstra says ISDN is at end-of-life and will be disconnected when NBN rolls out over the next five years.
The important dates for Telstra’s ISDN phase-out:
- 31 January 2018 – No New ISDN services – if you don’t already have any ISDN services, you won’t be able to get any additional services.
- 30 June 2018 – No new modifications or additions – you won’t be able to get new ISDN services at all.
- June 2019 – Telstra will start disconnecting existing ISDN services.
- 2022 – Telstra will stop supporting all ISDN2, ISDN2 Enhanced, ISDN10/20/30, DDS Fastway, Megalink and Frame Relay services.
PANIC NOT – There are many options to address the issue. It’s also a great opportunity to reassess how telephony and data can be integrated within your organisation, which could offer new services and cost savings.
